It’s summertime and we’re feeling fine! When you have a Glacier wedding in the summer, you can count on lots of sunshine, clear skies and wildflowers. We love drawing inspiration from Montana itself for wedding designs, especially when our couples want to infuse a ton of color! This was the case for newlyweds, Lindsey and John, whose wildflower wedding positively burst with joyful color, including tones of pink, blue, orange, yellow, and green.
With a Glacier wedding ceremony followed by a micro wedding reception at Great Northern Resort, their big day is the perfect model for a summer wedding in Montana. They took full advantage of the summer weather to fill their wedding weekend with everything they dreamed of without feeling rushed. From a private vow exchange to their wildflower wedding to a Glacier adventure session, Lindsey and John tied the knot in style!
So sit back and take notes as we take you through their Glacier wedding story! If you’re into colorful wildflowers, epic mountain views, and dining al fresco, this is the perfect inspiration for you!
Glacier Wedding Logistics:
So many couples flock to Montana specifically to get married in Glacier National Park, and we can’t blame them! The park is our backyard, so we of all people know the wonders and beauty Glacier has to offer. From the sparkling Lake McDonald to the majestic mountain ranges to the incredible wildlife we’ve spotted, there’s always something different to experience. You’ll never be disappointed, that’s for sure!
However, getting married in a national park isn’t as easy as booking a venue! There are unique logistics to take care of, including choosing one of the many ceremony sites, acquiring a permit, and navigating the park to actually get there on the day-of. Luckily, we are experts in these logistics and will gladly guide you through the process with ease!
Lindsey and John’s perfect Glacier wedding ceremony site was the Fish Creek Picnic Area Shoreline, a breathtaking spot by the lake. This area features a beach surrounded by mountains and the lush forest. It’s only about 10 minutes from the west entrance of the park and there are restrooms onsite, which is not always the case at every Glacier ceremony site!

But before they tied the knot, they started their Glacier wedding day with meaningful festivities. Let’s take a closer look!
Pre-Wedding Festivities:
We firmly believe that every part of your wedding day should be magical! That’s why the fun begins even before the ceremony and reception. On Lindsey and John’s Glacier wedding day, they kickstarted the festivities with two meaningful first looks. The first was between Lindsey and her dad, and the second was between Lindsey and John. When planning your wedding day timeline, we always ask if you’d like to do a first look with each other or anyone else. This could be your parents, siblings, wedding party, or even your dog! There are no rules or limits on your big day.
For their wildflower wedding, Lindsey wore an off-the-shoulder wedding gown with long sleeves and small train. Her veil was an incredible accent to her bridal look! It was extremely intricate and detailed with floral embroidery cascading down it. She completed her one-of-a-kind outfit with a fluffy and colorful bridal bouquet, supplied by Flathead Farmworks.
John looked similarly endearing that day in his forest green suit, complete with a patterned silk tie and vibrant pocket boutonniere. Talk about a man dressed in style: Even his glasses matched the perfect brown tone of his shoes!
After their first look, they exchanged private vows together. This brought tears to both their eyes and was one of the most emotional parts of the day!
Glacier Wedding Ceremony:
Then it was off to Glacier! At Fish Creek Picnic Area Shoreline, the permit time is two hours, which is just perfect for a ceremony and photos. Logistics came into play at this point in the day because the site only allows for four cars and twenty people max, so we had to instruct guests to carpool as much as possible.
Lindsey and John’s Glacier wedding ceremony was absolutely beautiful! It was such a clear day that the mountains were as green as could be and the lake beautifully reflected the blue sky. Soft golden light beamed down on them as they exchanged rings and promises.
There’s nothing better than getting married in nature!
Wildflower Wedding Reception at Great Northern Resort:
By the time Lindsey and John sealed the deal with a kiss, the vendor team back at Great Northern Resort had everything set up to celebrate the night away! We set a long wooden farmhouse table outside with 16 crossback chairs. We decorated it with an ivory gauze runner, clear bud vases with colorful wildflower and floating candles. Each place setting had blush pink glassware, a rattan charger, a custom agate place card, and a dusty blue linen napkin.
It was truly a summer al fresco dream!
We accented the rest of the Glacier wedding reception with wildflowers too, from the pressed flowers on the cake to arrangement on the memory table to the darling stems on the welcome table.
This was the site where Lindsey and John celebrated their nuptials with their closest friends and family! Together, they dined on a duet of herb roasted chicken and beef in a balsamic reduction. They indulged in hummingbird cake with salted caramel filling. They also made unforgettable memories, including Lindsey and John’s first dance to "You're the One" by Rhiannon Giddens
Something we’ll never forget about that evening was all the smiles, laughter, and love radiating throughout the space!
Glacier Wedding Adventure Session:
The next day, Lindsey and John hosted a day-after brunch for their people, giving them another chance to spend quality time together. Then, they embarked on a special adventure session in Glacier National Park. This three-hour adventure allowed them to capture epic newlywed photos, explore the park, and spend their first day as husband and wife in the best way possible!
A Word from Katie:
